La Quinta Country Club Tour

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Welcome To La Quinta Country Club!

Founded in 1959, La Quinta Country Club members enjoy a rich heritage other clubs dream of possessing. Most people are drawn here by golf and quickly fall in love with the beautiful desert ambiance and camaraderie among members. Although the spectacular golf and weather are the initial attraction to our club, genuine respect and interest in each other is the foundation that binds our special membership.

Today, La Quinta Country Club is about to embark on it’s newest chapter, the new Santa Barbara style clubhouse opened the Fall of 2009. The new clubhouse is stately, sophisticated and inviting, qualities that are expressions of who we are as a club.

Come explore LQCC to learn more about our exciting future. We are making history again!

TOOTIE’S TEXAS BARBEQUE in Cathedral City

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Everything’s bigger in Texas and
everything’s bigger—and juicier
and more delicious—at tooties bbq TOOTIE’S TEXAS BARBEQUE
The restaurant, open since 2002
on Perez Road in Cathedral City,
snagged second place for great-tasting
food at this year’s annual Taste

of Palm Springs!  I love the pulled pork sandwich, but they are famous for the Tootie’s Po’ Boy,
($9.95) a big, puffy bun stuffed
with shredded pork, (you can opt
for chopped brisket or chopped
chicken instead) and topped with
a generous slathering of barbecue
sauce and crunchy cole slaw.

For the best BBQ with a Texas flair– you have to get to Tootie’s!

Louise’s Your La Quinta Diner!

Monday, July 12th, 2010

louise

Before making its way to La Quinta, Louise’s Pantry began as a Palm Springs drugstore lunch counter in 1946. Through changing times and a series of owners, it has maintained a reputation as a great place for home-cooked meals.

New owner Chris Paolini subscribes to the theory that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” While Paolini has maintained the tradition of serving quality comfort food, like any good restaurant owner, he knows you have to be open to change. He has struck a balance by keeping the stick-to-your-ribs classics while adding new flavors for his guests.

In addition to classic sandwich favorites such as the Reuben, corned beef, egg salad and French dip, Louise’s now includes chicken Caesar and veggie wraps ($9.99) each rolled in a tomato-basil tortilla.

We arrived around noon, but being a breakfast fan, I opted for the eggs benedict ($11.99) served with country ham and topped with hollandaise sauce, with a side of country potatoes. Create your own omelette ($9.99) or enjoy a steaming hot Belgian waffle topped with whipped butter and warm maple syrup ($6.99). Hearty eaters can choose “Louise’s Breakfast” served with two eggs, hash browns, toast and homemade jam ($6.99).

If it’s been a while since you’ve had an exceptional burger, well, wait no longer. Louise’s burgers are made with -pound fresh ground beef and served on a sesame bun. The classic pantry burger ($10.99) is smothered with homemade chili, a pile of cheddar cheese and onions, if you so desire.

Vegetarians can feast on the 6-ounce garden burger topped with alfalfa sprouts and tomato ($9.99).

Louise’s has an extensive selection of salads, and servings are generous. The Cobb is overflowing with crispy bacon, egg, avocado and blue cheese ($10.99). Chicken, egg and tuna salads are served on a bed of crispy lettuce with tomato and cucumber.

My husband loves Louise’s and once a month they have a coupon for a buy-one-get-one-free entree in the Desert Sun!

Dink’s Restaurant and Ultra Lounge

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

Palm Springs Ultramodern Hot Spot             dinks

Dink’s Restaurant and Ultra Lounge turns up North Palm Canyon Drive’s dining and entertainment excitement more than a few notches! Architecture is inspired by the jagged towering mountains that are framed by Dink’s multi-peaked roof and glass walls. Owners Denny Edwards, and Michael Owings have created an environmentally friendly indoor/outdoor “green” establishment that breathes fun, sophistication, and inspiration. In case you were wondering, Dink’s stands for “double income, no kids.

Culinary Director Owings designed the restaurant’s ultramodern steel, glass, and mahogany appointed interior as well as its eclectic menu that spans international and regional cuisines — Caribbean, Pan-Asian, Italian, Southwestern, and Southern. Small plates meant to be shared range from sushi, tapas, and antipasti to finger foods and showcase meat and seafood choices that are “crispy,” as well as skewered, wrapped, and rolled. Char-grilled pizzas, “between the slices” sandwiches, scrumptious “after five” specialties and heavenly desserts make dining at Dink’s a spectacular event. The wine list offers tastings from every part of the globe to match the international cuisine.

Both the indoor and outdoor bars are lively with conversation and music, serving signature specialty cocktails, Mojitos, martinis and tropical teasers. Relax under the stars on couches as the retractable patio roof reveals the heavens. For privacy there are indoor and outdoor cabanas, and, if the night turns chilly, hooded robes enwrap the wearer in soft luxury.

Dinks is open daily for dinner from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.,and entertainment Fri-Sun from 7 p.m. to midnight. Sip a nightcap while sitting on the curved red sofa that snakes around the sultry black piano, backlit by twinkling lights and Dink’s peaked logo.

A special dining and entertainment experience awaits you at Dink’s along with mountain views and a caring staff.
