La Quinta Historic Hotel and Celebrity Playground

La Quinta 30th Anniversary– La Quinta Historic Hotel and Celebrity Playgroundla quinta resort

When the new “Hotel La Quinta” opened in 1926 it was dubbed as “one of the finest winter resorts in the country.”

It soon became a secluded retreat to the Hollywood elite such as Greta Garbo and Clark Gable. Movie stars would flock to La Quinta to escape the crowds and paparazzi and spend weekends in the sun playing golf and lounging by the pools.  It was their own secret paradise!

Today’s La Quinta Resort & Spa reflects its historic charm with its lush grounds, pools and courts and its cozy casitas.  They have added a spa and many other amenities over the years and now it is a world-class resort destination.

Golfers have their choice of the Dunes and Mountain courses designed by Pete Dye.  They offer challenging tests and spectacular scenery of the adjacent Santa Rosa mountains.

Come visit us in La Quinta and spend a spectacular weekend at the La Quinta Resort & Spa!

Wolfgang Puck Restaurant Coming to Palm Desert

WOLFGANG PUCK RESTAURANT COMING TO PALM DESERT  wolfgang puck

Wolfgang Puck is bringing his Pizza Bar concept to a new restaurant slated to open in Palm Desert on El Paseo in 2013!  The resaturant will feature a variety of pizzas, salads, sandwiches and desserts with a casual theme that fits the desert lifestyle.   The 4,000sq.ft. space will occupy three vacant suites on El Paseo and construction is scheduled to begin this summer.

Wolfgang opened its first “Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar” in Charlotte, NC.  There are 20 fine-dining and more than 80 casual outlets bearing Puck’s name throughout the US.  His brand represents fresh flavors that blend many cuisines to create unique dishes!

One of Wolfgang Pucks‘ signature dishes is Tuna Sashimi with Avocado… it has been copied by so many restaurants that it has gone mainstream.  He also was the first to do a Smoked Salmon Pizza... and nicknamed it the Rich and Famous Pizza for Robin Leach, who paired it with a glass of champagne.  For more of Wolfgangs signature dishes follow the link above.

We are looking forward to trying the new Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar on El Paseo… we will see you there!

Rockwood Grill Open at Marriott in Palm Desert!

The JW Marriott Resort in Palm Desert is a flag-ship hotel for the Marriott chain or hotels and resorts.  When I first moved to the jw marriottdesert in the late 1980′s I would take people there just to see the lobby!  It is truly a spectacular and stunning hotel!  How many hotels have you seen that have boats coming in and out of the lobby to deliver you to different restaurants located on the property?  Live parrots greet you as you come in the doors and real pink flamingos live in the lagoons and lush gardens.

Best French Bistro in the Valley!

Best French Bistro in the Desert!

LA BRASSERIE BISTRO & BAR

One of our favorite newer restaurants in the valley is La Brasserie Bistro & Bar~  The menu is interesting and expertly prepared… and the service is attentive.  Lunches are very busy with locals and visitors alike… and the happy hour is one of the best in the desert!

Executive Chef Emmanuel and Kara Janin opened La Brasserie Bistro & Bar in the spring, enjoying a successful summer with community support. They transformed an existing building in La Quinta into a distinctive French brasserie. Keeping the brass ceiling, dark wood pillars, and tile throughout, the Janins remodeled the dining rooms with beige tapestry on banquettes, sheer curtains, copper chandeliers, brass and copper accents, and dark wood tables with black napery for dinner. The popular patio is misted and heated, and gives you the fell of a private patio outside a European bistro.

The orange-chicken salad is a favorite of mine, along with the spectacular crocque madame…and the short-rib grilled cheese!  If you ask for them… you can have your fries served “truffled”…( a little extra, but worth it!)  An extensive menu of meat, seafood, and chicken items with a French flair includes onion soup gratinée, baby leaf spinach salad, La Brasserie Tarte Flambée, steak tartare, Fillet du Perale Dover Sole Niçoise, and warm pear tart with almonds and salted caramel ice cream. Homemade honey from a family farm is used in menu items. The bar features international beers and wines, and there is soft jazz and contemporary entertainment on Friday and Saturday. Open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday, happy hour 4-6 p.m.
