La Quinta Historic Hotel and Celebrity Playground

La Quinta 30th Anniversary– La Quinta Historic Hotel and Celebrity Playgroundla quinta resort

When the new “Hotel La Quinta” opened in 1926 it was dubbed as “one of the finest winter resorts in the country.”

It soon became a secluded retreat to the Hollywood elite such as Greta Garbo and Clark Gable. Movie stars would flock to La Quinta to escape the crowds and paparazzi and spend weekends in the sun playing golf and lounging by the pools.  It was their own secret paradise!

Today’s La Quinta Resort & Spa reflects its historic charm with its lush grounds, pools and courts and its cozy casitas.  They have added a spa and many other amenities over the years and now it is a world-class resort destination.

Golfers have their choice of the Dunes and Mountain courses designed by Pete Dye.  They offer challenging tests and spectacular scenery of the adjacent Santa Rosa mountains.

Come visit us in La Quinta and spend a spectacular weekend at the La Quinta Resort & Spa!

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Wolfgang Puck Restaurant Coming to Palm Desert

Wolfgang Puck is bringing his Pizza Bar concept to a new restaurant slated to open in Palm Desert on El Paseo in 2013!  The resaturant will feature a variety of pizzas, salads, sandwiches and desserts with a casual theme that fits the desert lifestyle.   The 4,000sq.ft. space will occupy three vacant suites on El Paseo and construction is scheduled to begin this summer.

Wolfgang opened its first “Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar” in Charlotte, NC.  There are 20 fine-dining and more than 80 casual outlets bearing Puck’s name throughout the US.  His brand represents fresh flavors that blend many cuisines to create unique dishes!

One of Wolfgang Pucks‘ signature dishes is Tuna Sashimi with Avocado… it has been copied by so many restaurants that it has gone mainstream.  He also was the first to do a Smoked Salmon Pizza... and nicknamed it the Rich and Famous Pizza for Robin Leach, who paired it with a glass of champagne.  For more of Wolfgangs signature dishes follow the link above.

We are looking forward to trying the new Wolfgang Puck Pizza Bar on El Paseo… we will see you there!

Pooch-friendly Patios in the Palm Springs Area!

Hannah enjoys hanging out on Citron’s patio at Viceroy Palm Springs.Hannah enjoys hanging out on Citron’s patio at Viceroy Palm Springs.HEATHER PARKER

The Palm Springs area is famous for their patios and al fresco dining- – our balmy desert nites and bright sunny days make outdoor dining delightful, even in the winter.  We are lucky to have so many options available for patio dining… and these restaurants are also pet friendly!

Blue Coyote Bar & Grill
This Southwestern-Mexican restaurant has a lively, dog-friendly, outdoor patio scene, where strolling guitarists serenade the crowd. The restaurant allows pooches on both the front and back patio, depending on how busy it is. Blue Coyote offers dogs water (iced during summer), as well as treats.
445 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs.

Citron at Viceroy Palm Springs
Citron regularly provides dog bowls for all of their four-legged diners. Whether accompanying resort guests or locals, dogs are welcome poolside. Wait staff presents them with ice water “on the rocks” in dog bowls adorned with Viceroy’s whippet insignia. Citron also offers a “pooch” menu for optimum dining pleasure.
415 S. Belardo Rd., Palm Springs.

Copley’s on Palm Canyon
Copley’s patio offers dining with mountain views and cozy places by the fire pit. At this restaurant, canine diners are not uncommon. “We have one regular pooch named Farnsworth that frequents our restaurant,” Juliana Copley says. Copley’s provides water for Farnsworth and his four-legged buddies.
621 N. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs.

Ernie’s at PGA West
Ernie’s Bar & Grill, located at the Tournament Clubhouse at PGA West, offers alfresco dining with cozy seating around two fire pits and fabulous views of TPC Stadium and Nicklaus tournament courses. Dogs are allowed on the patio, where they have easy access to water bowls.
56150 PGA Blvd, La Quinta.

LuLu California Bistro
Dog owners dine comfortably with their furry friends on LuLu California Bistro’s terrace that abuts the sidewalk on Palm Canyon Drive. Offering fresh California fare and a water bowl for Spot, LuLu is a happy place for both dog and human.
200 S. Palm Canyon Dr., Palm Springs.

Old Town Coffee Company
Old Town Coffee Company, a quaint coffeehouse with a strong sense of community, features patio areas that flow from arched covered areas to the sidewalk with colorful umbrellas. People with pooches are seen daily. The cafe provides water bowls and dog treats.
78100 Main St., Ste. 102, La Quinta.

Pastry Swan’s Fix, A Dessert House
Walk your dog along El Paseo and stop at Pastry Swan’s Fix. The patio features a large fountain, umbrellas, and café tables. For the furry ones, Fix sets out water bowls daily and makes their own dog treats that pups love.
73580 El Paseo, Palm Desert.

ROC’s Firehouse Grill at the Cantina
Roc’s Firehouse Grill at Eldorado Polo Club puts you right on the sidelines of the polo fields with full view of horses, riders, palms, and mountains. Water bowls and doggie cookies are available for furry guests.
50950 Madison Ave., Indio.

Spencer’s Restaurant
Named after the owner’s late Siberian husky Spencer, this elegant restaurant allows dogs on the outdoor patio. A doggie etiquette card reads: “Only two dogs per table. Dogs must remain on the floor and not fed from the table. They may drink only from the designated pet water bowl, remain leashed, be attended, and well behaved.” It works.
701 E. Baristo Rd., Palm Springs.

Twenty6 & Adobe Grill
(La Quinta Resort & Club)
Twenty6 and Adobe Grill allow pooches on their restaurant patios and provide water bowls, as well as tasty treats for dogs. The outdoor patios are located in La Quinta Resort’s lushly landscaped multilevel plaza, with nearby access to verdant lawns and beautiful views of the Santa Rosa Mountains — a perfect setting to enjoy a meal with the entire family.

Best French Bistro in the Valley!

Best French Bistro in the Desert!

One of our favorite newer restaurants in the valley is La Brasserie Bistro & Bar~  The menu is interesting and expertly prepared… and the service is attentive.  Lunches are very busy with locals and visitors alike… and the happy hour is one of the best in the desert!

Executive Chef Emmanuel and Kara Janin opened La Brasserie Bistro & Bar in the spring, enjoying a successful summer with community support. They transformed an existing building in La Quinta into a distinctive French brasserie. Keeping the brass ceiling, dark wood pillars, and tile throughout, the Janins remodeled the dining rooms with beige tapestry on banquettes, sheer curtains, copper chandeliers, brass and copper accents, and dark wood tables with black napery for dinner. The popular patio is misted and heated, and gives you the fell of a private patio outside a European bistro.

The orange-chicken salad is a favorite of mine, along with the spectacular crocque madame…and the short-rib grilled cheese!  If you ask for them… you can have your fries served “truffled”…( a little extra, but worth it!)  An extensive menu of meat, seafood, and chicken items with a French flair includes onion soup gratinée, baby leaf spinach salad, La Brasserie Tarte Flambée, steak tartare, Fillet du Perale Dover Sole Niçoise, and warm pear tart with almonds and salted caramel ice cream. Homemade honey from a family farm is used in menu items. The bar features international beers and wines, and there is soft jazz and contemporary entertainment on Friday and Saturday. Open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Saturday, happy hour 4-6 p.m.
