GET LIT: Looking for a place to kick off a weekend full of Labor Day parties? You’re in luck.

LIT — Fantasy Springs Resort Casino’s new bar and lounge — will be hosting a grand opening party tonight starting at 7 p.m. Those 21 and older are invited to enjoy a ribbon-cutting, two performances by the Playboy Playmate Dancers at 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. and a chance to win thousands of dollars of free play. Patrons will also be able to groove to tunes provided by rock band New Breed, who is scheduled to begin their set at 9 p.m.

A Metromix photographer will be on hand snapping photos as well, so make sure to check out palmsprings.metromix.com early next week for a glimpse at all the fun.

Kick-off the new school year with a special Back-to-School Concert on the Event Lawn on Saturday, September 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Enjoy the music of “Caxton” and “Cakes and Brains”.

“Caxton” is a Southern California, modern Indie-rock style band whose members hail from Los Angeles, the Coachella Valley and Orange County areas. “Cakes and Brains” is a trio consisting of La Quinta High graduate, Matt Costello and La Quinta High seniors, Dylan Costello and Jarred Weaver.  They combine the energy and stage presence of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers with the smooth, relaxing, and poetic musical genius of Sublime.

Bring a blanket, your family and friends and enjoy a free movie under the stars on the Old Town La Quinta Lawn.

Come early and have dinner at one of Old Town’s restaurants before the show – or order your food to-go and enjoy your meal with the movie! Old Town Artisan Studio will provide a free kids activity near Old Town Coffee Company starting at 7 p.m.  Children under age 13 must be supervised.

About the movie: As adolescent wizard-in-training Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and he begins to learn more about the dark past of the boy who grew up to become Lord Voldemort in this, the sixth installment of the film series that originated from the writings of author J.K. Rowling.  The film received an Academy Award nomination in 2010 for Best Achievement in Cinematography.

La Quinta Arts Foundation presents a series of artists creating intimate galleries at Old Town Cellar throughout the summer months.  The galleries will be set for 4 weeks each at which time you are invited to stop by anytime to enjoy a glass of your favorite wine, a nosh, and take in the incredible art for sale.
